Discovering African Life in Accra, Ghana’s Capital

If you are planning a trip to Ghana and you are looking for a true African experience, then here is a list of the best things to do, starting from Accra, the capital of this amazing country. Tourists who usually go to visit an African country want to discover the culture and learn about the local customs. So here are the best things to do in Accra!

Labadi Beach – This is an amazing one, especially if you’ve just arrived and you want to get some rest after your journey. This is Accra’s most popular beach, so it is full of things to do and restaurants where to eat or have something fresh to drink. It is also full of performers and street shows. It can get a bit rowdy during late weekend nights, however it is very lively and enjoyable during daytime. Waves can be strong and it can be a very crowded beach.

Artists Alliance Gallery – If love contemporary and fine art and you like visiting museums, then this is the best spot for you! It is an absolutely stunning Art Gallery that will bewitch you with its beauty. At least one work of all Ghanian most respected artists is hosted in this gallery, and most of the art you will see is for sale. They ship all over the world and everything can be purchased via credit card. The gallery, which is located near Labadi Beach on Accra-Tema Beach Road, is open daily and admission is free. Don’t miss it!

Makola Market – If you are looking for a truly African shopping experience, then leave you camera and valuables at home and immerse yourself in hectic Makola Market, where you can find anything you can think of. This is where local people shop, so prepare to be ignored as a tourist and to respect their ways of negotiating and joking. Any taxi driver will take you there.

National Colors

After having visited the city of Accra, you can book a safari tour in one of the ecotourism sites or National parks which are around the city. At 17 km from Accra you can find the Shai Hill Resource Reserve which has an area of 52km2 where you can visit caves and see different kinds of animals around hills of 290 m high.
