Visiting The Irish Sea Is A Must For All Game Of Thrones Fans

[ 0 ] September 26, 2013 |

OK, admit it.  You, along with millions of others, love Game of Thrones!

This medieval drama has taken the world by storm as the battle for control of The Iron Throne rages.  With a huge cast, absolutely amazing scenery and backdrops, and a plot with more twists than the Causeway Coast itself, Game of Thrones has become the latest entertainment option where the filming locations are almost as popular as the actual television show.

Causeway Coast

When people consider visiting locations where filming has occurred they very often relate this to movies from the big screen.  Movies like Twilight, Lord of the Rings and The Beach have inspired many thousands of visitors to the locations where they were filmed. Hawaii benefits every year from thousands of visitors who come to see where popular shows like Gilligan’s Island, Lost and Fantasy Island were filmed.  Movie buffs can seek out the Hawaiian film locations of The Descendants, Jurassic Park, Six Days, Seven Nights and Pirates of the Caribbean.  Tours offering to take you to all of these places complete with commentary and lunch are extremely popular.

So it’s no surprise that there are now tours offered to visit the Irish Sea and drive the Causeway Coast where many Game of Thrones scenes were filmed.

The Irish Coast has some of the most amazing scenery anywhere in the world. After your ferry crossing to Ireland, spending a few days driving and exploring this windswept coastline will have you believing you were really there in the cave when Melisandre gave birth to the shadow child in Season Two! The chance to stand in the place where Theon was baptized and where Renly and Stannis came together to discuss who had the best claim to The Iron Throne are all included when you plan a driving visit to this fabulous Irish coastal area.

Travelling with teens? What better way to get them a little more excited about a trip to Ireland.

If you’re the absolute number one fan of Game of Thrones you might even like to make your visit to the Irish Sea that little bit more authentic by downloading the series soundtrack to play as you visit the area.  There is a soundtrack available for each series and this could be just what you need to give your visit that extra fun touch!  Dare we suggest that any true Game of Thrones fan probably already has this on their iPod anyway?

If hours of instrumental music is too much even for you to bear why not download some other Irish artists and create your perfect driving playlist for your road trip?  Sinead O’Connor, U2, Bob Geldof, Van Morrison, Brian McFadden, The Cranberries, Enya and Ronan Keating are all famous Irish singers or bands and give enough variety that you should be able to craft your very favourite Irish playlist.

Film location holidays can be a pile of fun and the Game of Thrones locations are no different.  Do your research before you go, download your favourite tunes and make this a holiday to remember!
