5 Ridiculously expensive but truly amazing travel gadgets

[ 0 ] July 6, 2013 |

Gone are the days when the only ‘travel aid’ you needed was a paperback guide to your destination. Now, if you don’t have an e-reader, a tablet and a digital camera with at least four different lenses, you’re the odd one out. And don’t even try leaving without your portable air purifier.

We all love a good gadget and there’s some very clever travel tech out there. But where’s the fun in looking at things that are actually useful? Here are five travel gadgets that are more ridiculous than sublime.

1.    TravelTeq Trip Sound Suitcase – £400, travelteq.com

The queues at the airport are massive and there’s a screaming toddler behind you. You need to sit down and chill out, stat.

Enter the TravelTeq Trip Sound Suitcase – it packs up just like any other suitcase, but kick out the hidden legs, release the seat and voila – you have yourself a chair. And it has a sound system, so you can play your favourite tunes while you wait.

2.    Jetlev R200 - £75,000, jetlev.com

If you’re heading off for two weeks beside the sea, this is the gadget for you. Why just swim in the ocean when you can fly across it? This nifty piece of tech sucks in water through a hose and propels the wearer across the water more than 30 feet in the air. So, so cool.

3.    Hasselblad H4D-60 Camera – £21,500, hasselbladusa.com

Think the digital camera you picked up in Duty Free for fifty quid will do the job on your holiday snaps? Think again. This beauty has an extra large sensor, an impressive number of pixels and an unprecedented resolution, according to the makers. That photo of your Gran trying to get on the back of a camel in Egypt will be crystal clear.

4.    Personal Submarine – £1,315,672, hammacher.com

Does what it says on the tin, really. What better way to explore the depths of the ocean or the beauty of the Great Barrier Reef than in your own personal submarine? A snip at just over a million.

5.    iPad Gold History Edition – £5,227,000, stuarthughes.com

Your normal, boring tablet is simply not good enough. Go for this gold-plated version and be the envy (or mockery) of every other passenger on the flight as you watch the latest rom-com. And while you’re at it, pick up a pair of the $1m diamond-studded Beats By Dre headphones. Well, why not?
