Family holidays that will make the kids go ‘WOW’

Val Gardena Summer

Taking the family on holidays near and far can produce a lifetime of unforgettable memories. So why settle for a drive to same old holiday spots for the weekend if everyone’s been before and quite frankly, the kids (and mum and dad) are over road trips. From rock climbing in Italy to riding camels in Egypt to skiing in Bulgaria, there is a world of adventure within easy reach that will excite every member of the family if you just take the time to look.

Rock climbing in Italy

Italy’s majestic Dolomites mountains are a like a romantic fairytale setting with adventure and outdoor sports thrown in. Hiking, cycling and rock climbing are popular activities, with a range of options suitable for all ages and fitness levels. You can also take a tour to learn about the mountains, the local history and the culture. There’s a wide range of dining options, fields to play in and fossils to hunt for amongst the rock faces. You won’t lack for family activities in the Dolomites.

A seaside break with more

Butlins resorts family holiday parks don’t just offer accommodation near the seaside. They offer a full family holiday experience. With a waterpark and a packed school holiday program including a fairground and family activities, including no shortage of activities where the kids are taken care of while you enjoy some relaxing vacation time. So why not spend time with the family on an august holiday at the seaside for your next escape.

Take a budget ski holiday

Fancy a White Christmas at a ski resort with the family but can’t afford the Alps? Consider Eastern Europe. If you want to cut your costs but not compromise on facilities like lifts, access to great restaurants, a huge range of accommodation and short travel times look no further than Bansko in Bulgaria. A family can ski for under 200 euros per day, including accommodation, food, lift passes, lessons or kids club and equipment hire.

Take in the past in Egypt

Egypt is more than just pyramids and ruins, although quite frankly that would have been enough of a drawcard for me as a teen! Visit the world renowned Egyptian Museum in Cairo, haggle in the markets, explore different cuisines, take a cruise down the Nile or a sleeper train to Aswan, ride a camel across the desert or enjoy sunbaking and snorkelling on the Red Sea. The opportunities are endless and you’ll be able to find something to suit everyone.
