Glamorous Lake Garda

[ 0 ] June 8, 2012 |

Now I’m not a camper. I need a plug for straighteners and I need concrete walls, however, the idea of glamping is not something I’m completely adverse to, because hence the word infusion –glamour. Right up my street.

Basically, glamping is camping with a bit of luxury thrown in, be it posh stand-alone bath tubs or four poster beds; it’s basically camping for the camp-phobic.

In northern Italy, Lake Garda is a fantastic place to give glamping a try, with many luxury campsites to choose from. This break with a difference is made even cheap thanks to budget airlines and bargain prices. Want to lower your holiday price further? Try great-value airport extras, such as airport parking at Heathrow, Heathrow airport lounges, etc which can really make the airport experience so much relaxing.

The great thing about Lake Garda and its huge range of activities, is that it’s close to fantastic Italian cities, with plenty of scope to explore. Fancy a day in Milan or Venice? Well you can, if you combine Lake Garda with a city-break.

Lake Garda itself is truly spectacular, with nature and wildlife in abundance, mixed together with activities to keep everyone busy. Lake Garda is Italy’s longest water-way, with mountains shooting up into the sky.

What is there to do? Well water-sports are plentiful. If relaxing on a beach is your idea of fun, there’s plenty of choice. Want to spend? Shopping is just one of the many pastimes you can indulge in, with main towns drenched in boutiques and souvenir shops, many selling the famous limoncella liquor, which calls the region its home.

History your thing? Salo is for you, with its gothic and baroque examples, and certainly worth a visit. Remember your camera as views over the lake from the promenade are stunning, especially at sunset.

Nature? Gardone Riviera is your destination with beautiful botanical gardens. The west of the region is home to a nature park, home to eagles.

More? If you’re into a bit of adrenaline, you have the choice of natural adrenaline or man-made. For natural, head north-east into the mountains, for hiking and mountain-biking. For made-made adrenaline, Gardaland is where it’s at, with many rides to test your screamability.

If you haven’t tired yourselves out during the day, night-time provides just as much variety. Firstly, you’re in Italy, so it would be a travesty not to give local food a try, and my oh my is it delicious. Famous world-wide, I’m sure I don’t need to go into details of dishes, but they’re certainly yummy!

Maybe a glass of wine with views over the lake is enough for your night’s entertainment, but if not, head to Desenzano, the largest town on the lake, with many clubs and bars –perfect for dancing the night away.

Lake Garda may sound glittering and expensive, but you can keep things pretty cheap if you’re savvy. It’s not a long journey, so you can budget on your flights, and, if you’re flying from Luton you can find low cost extras, such as parking at Luton airport if you book really early. Gatwick airport parking is especially useful as this airport has such a vast range of flights coming and going; you’re bound to find a great deal.

If you’re going to take the plunge and try glamping anywhere, make it Lake Garda; surrounded by such natural sights, you’ll think you’re in the most luxurious hotel in the world.
