Helping Haiti

Posted on 20 January 2010 by Sasha

The earthquake that rocked Haiti on Tuesday the 12th of January 2010 has shocked the world.  The sheer devastation and damage is overwhelming  The pictures in this video and on the news are distressing and heartbreaking but they themselves cannot truly convey the devastation, the agony and the emotions the people are going through.

Haiti the poorest country in the western hemisphere had very little and now all they have left is their spirit, their hope and there courage.  I keep thinking to myself if I were there what would I say? What do you say to people whose lives have been shattered in an instant?

The travel community is really getting behind this cause to raise awareness and make a contribution to a country and a community who is in desperate need of our help, love and support.

Madador Change has information on how you can make a difference as well as info on how you can get involved in their volunteer project.

Got Passport has an amazing article with incredibly comprehensive information on donating and volunteering in Haiti.  They are also donating $2 to the cause for every meaningful comment they receive on this article so make sure to leave a comment!!!

Haiti is in desperate need of help and aid.  There are so many worthy organisations dedicated to helping this cause.

You can make a donation at:

Penang Hill Malaysia Truly Asia TV

Posted on 01 January 2010 by Sasha

My friends Michael, Lauren and I were interviewed by Malaysia Truly Asia TV when we visited the beautiful Penang Hill. The day we visited the weather wasn’t that great but it must of been our lucky day because the fog cleared just enough for us to see the spectacular view. Unfortunately they cut out most of the incredibly intelligent things we said and i ended up saying only three words but it was still awesome none the less to play a tiny part in the promotion of this beautiful destination that is Penang. If you haven’t been there go, you might just become a Malaysia Truly Asia TV Star!!!

Portobello Road

Portobello Road Flower Truck

Portobello Road located in Notting Hill west London (made famous by the 1999 film) is a great spot to spend a few hours.  This nearly 1km long road comes alive every Saturday for its famous antiques market.  If you can’t make it to Portobello Road on a weekend it is still lively and bustling during the week with market stalls selling fruits, veg and flowers to clothes and antiques.  There are also a whole variety of funky little boutiques selling unique, weird and wonderful items.  You can definitely make a day of exploring Notting Hill and west London with nearby attractions including Kensington Palace and Gardens, Hyde Park and Abbey Road.

Chieow Laan Lake, Thailand

The stunning Chieow Laan Lake in Khao Sok National Park, Thailand is a great place to visit for any outdoor lover.  The cool clear waters are great for swimming and kayaking with floating villages, a great place to stop for lunch and to mix in with the locals.  The surrounding jungle is fantastic for trekking and spotting the charismatic wildlife.

crpatian islandssm

Croatia’s stunning Elafiti Islands are situated just off the coast of Dubrovnik.  The archipelago is made up of 13 gorgeous leafy green islands set in the warm waters of the Adriatic.  Cruising around the islands makes for a perfect relaxing day of sun, sand, sea and great food!!!  The waters in this area are in fact so salty that you could spend hours floating on the calm seas.

Penang

Kek Lok Si Temple is a spectacular Chinese Buddhist temple perched above George Town, Penang.  This massive temple is the largest Buddhist temple in South East Asia.  The vibrant colours, intricacy of design and the magnificence of the 37m high bronze statue of the Goddess of Mercy is a must see when visiting Penang.
