Travel Moment: Crossing Skadar Lake in Montenegro

Skadar Lake Montenegro

Montenegro is a tiny country located in the Balkans along the Adriatic Coastline.  What this country lacks in size (14.000 km2 and a population of around 670 000) it makes up in its stunning natural beauty of granite mountains, clear lakes, and seductive beaches.  Not to mention the countries unique history and cultural heritage.

Skadar Lake Montenegro

My experience of Montenegro was a short one, experienced entirely through the windows of the bus as we drove from one side of the country to the other from Albania on route to Croatia.  I was instantly taken by this tiny countries beauty, the green of the trees offset by the blue of the lake and the sea, the terracotta roofs on the charming little houses.  It was a welcome sight after the harshness and dryness of Albania.

The few minutes I did get to spend outside of the bus on the ferry crossing Skadar Lake was enough to make me yearn for more, to make me yearn to travel this tiny country, to see its sights, to experience local life, to taste its delights and to feel its soft sea breeze for more than just a few minutes. Oh and of course to see all the places where they shot James Bond “Casino Royale!”
